CCR 4 - How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware, and online platforms – in this project?

Script:

Opening – On Camera

Good evening. Today, we are reporting on a student-produced music video that focuses on an important and controversial social issue: relationship violence. This music video uses media language and technology to turn song lyrics into a meaningful visual story.

Voiceover

The music video follows a clear narrative, starting with a breakup between a girl and a guy and slowly building tension. To create this story, different types of technology were used throughout the production process.

To record the video, the creator used basic camera hardware, such as a phone or digital camera. A tripod was also used to keep shots steady and professional. Indoor scenes were filmed to show conflict, while outdoor scenes showed the male character alone, helping communicate emotion through framing and shot choice.

On Camera

Different shot types were used to help the audience understand the characters. Close-ups showed emotions like anger and frustration, while long shots showed isolation after the breakup. These camera choices helped guide the audience’s understanding without needing dialogue.

Mise-en-scène was carefully planned to make the story feel realistic. The house setting made the situation relatable for the target audience. Props like a ring and money were used to represent manipulation instead of love. Lighting was kept natural to match the serious tone of the video.

For editing, the creator used iMovie as the main software. iMovie was used to cut clips together using continuity editing so scenes flowed smoothly. Edits were timed to match the beat and lyrics of the song, helping the visuals connect clearly to the message.

The music works as non-diegetic sound, setting the mood for the entire video. Using iMovie, important moments — like the confrontation at the window and the pool scene — were synced with the lyrics to make the message stronger.

Online platforms were also used during the project. These were used for researching music video conventions, planning scenes, and getting feedback. Looking at other music videos helped the creator understand how social issues are usually represented in the media.

On Camera – Closing

Overall, this project shows how hardware, software, and online platforms can work together to create meaning. Technology was not just used to film and edit, but to clearly communicate a message about why relationship violence is never okay.

By combining iMovie, camera equipment, and online research with AICE Media Studies concepts like narrative, representation, mise-en-scène, and sound, this music video successfully delivers a strong and educational message.
