Film Opening Pitch

 

Film Title & Genre 

• “Kiss, Marry, KILL” - “Kiss” and “Marry” would be in cursive and a pink or red font while “KILL” would be bold in black. 
• Horror and mystery 
• Horror/Mystery - These genres focus on creating suspense and fear by discovering dark secrets, strange events, and hidden truths that keep the audience attentive and curious. 

 
 

Log Line 

The main character is Julie, a teenage girl who is attending her friend’s party. She and her friends are just trying to have a fun time, when all of sudden, something goes incredibly wrong. The tone of the film will be suspenseful, tense, and a hint of a comedy. 

 
 

Opening Description 

The setting will be at Summer’s house since she is hosting a party for her friends to attend. Everyone will be playing games (specifically spin the bottle), and they eventually get somewhat bored. Julie says that everyone should play Kiss, Marry, Kill. Everyone agrees and they begin to play. Julie secretly has a crush on Ella’s boyfriend Ethan, which affects the game. After playing and eating, Sienna (Ella’s best friend) notices Ella had been gone for a while. She goes to check on her in the bathroom and she’s gone. She looks over and finds Ella’s arm draped over the bathtub, and she screams. 

 
 
 

Use of Media Language 

• Our sounds consist of lots of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds. A few examples are dialogue, music, and additional sound effects. 
• Our editing will bounce from being fast-paced to slower-paced to capture the audience's attention and set up the scene. 
• For mise-en-scene, we will have birthday decorations to support the party idea, a green glass bottle for the spin the bottle game portraying jealousy and enviousness, and party outfits. 

 

Target Audience 

The target audiences are young adults and teens (14-18) since jealousy and insecurity in social settings is relatable for this age group. Additionally, this age group typically finds interest in the horror/mystery genres. 

 

Inspiration & Genre Conventions 

• Heart Eyes – It has a sweet opening that leads to a frightening turn of events. 
• Sudden tone changes, clues hidden in plain sight, and creating tension were conventions me, Gia, and Isabel were inspired by.  
• The opening follows those conventions by having a quick shift in what is happening which changes the tone, having a literal hand hanging out of the bathtub, and just overall creating tension towards the end of the opening.
